Privacy Policy
Last updated 17 October 2026
The short version: everything about your baby (their name, birth date, photos, milestones and letters) stays on your iPhone and in your own private iCloud, where we cannot read it. We collect anonymous usage analytics that never include your baby’s name, photos or exact birth date. No ads, no tracking across apps, and we never sell your data.
This policy explains what Baby Says: Baby Development (“the app”, “we”) collects, why, and what stays with you. It applies to the iPhone app and this website. If anything here is unclear, email SUPPORT_EMAIL_PENDING.
We don’t ask you to create an account
The app has no sign-up, no login and no password. We never ask for your name, email address or phone number.
What stays with you
The details you enter about your baby are stored on your device:
- Your baby’s name, birth date and due date
- The appearance you choose for your baby’s illustrated character
- Milestones you tick off and your activity history
- Photos you add to the app
- Your baby’s weekly letters
If you are signed in to iCloud, Apple syncs this data to your own private iCloud account (the CloudKit private database) so it follows you to a new iPhone. It is held by Apple in your iCloud, not by us, and we cannot read it. None of it is sent to our analytics or subscription providers. To stop syncing, turn off iCloud for the app in iOS Settings → your name → iCloud.
Anonymous usage analytics
We use PostHog (hosted in the United States) to understand which screens and features are used, so we can improve the app. Events look like “letter opened” or “milestone ticked” and are tied to a random install id created by the app, together with basic technical details such as device model, iOS version, app version, language and country.
Some onboarding answers are recorded in a non-identifying form, for example your baby’s age band in weeks, whether this is your first baby, which topics you’re curious or concerned about, and how much play time you have per day. Analytics never include your baby’s name, photos, letters or exact birth date.
Purchases
Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment card details. We use Adapty to check whether your subscription is active and to show the right plan. Adapty receives an anonymous customer user id, purchase records from Apple and basic device information.
Videos
Some activities include videos embedded from YouTube. When a video plays, it is served by YouTube, which may collect information such as your IP address and device details under its own terms. See the Google Privacy Policy and the YouTube Terms of Service. Videos only load when you open them.
Messages you send us
If you email us, we keep what you send, including your email address, so we can reply and act on it.
What we don’t do
- No advertising and no advertising SDKs.
- No tracking you across other companies’ apps or websites, so the app never shows the App Tracking Transparency prompt.
- No selling or renting your data, and no sharing it for advertising.
- No uploading your baby’s details or photos to our servers. We don’t run any server that stores them.
Service providers
- Apple — app distribution, App Store purchases and iCloud sync to your own private account.
- Adapty — subscription status.
- PostHog — anonymous usage analytics.
- YouTube (Google) — plays embedded videos.
- Cloudflare — hosts this website.
Each provider processes data under its own privacy policy. We may also disclose information where the law requires it.
Children
The app is made for parents and caregivers, not for children, and it is not in the App Store’s Kids category. It is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Information a parent enters about their baby stays on the parent’s device and private iCloud, as described above, and is not collected by us. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, email us and we will delete it. This is how we meet the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including the EEA and UK under the GDPR and California under the CCPA, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in the CCPA. Because the app has no accounts, most of your data is already in your hands: see below. For anything held by us or our providers, email SUPPORT_EMAIL_PENDING and we’ll respond within 30 days.
Deleting your data
- Delete the app to remove everything it keeps on your iPhone, including your baby’s details, photos and letters.
- Delete the iCloud data in iOS Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage (or Manage Storage) → Baby Says → Delete Data.
- Because analytics use only a random install id, deleting the app breaks the link to any past analytics. To ask us to delete analytics or subscription records, email SUPPORT_EMAIL_PENDING.
Data retention and security
We keep usage data only as long as it’s useful for improving the app, and emails only as long as needed to resolve your request. Data in transit is encrypted with industry-standard TLS. We limit what we collect so there is little to expose.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
